Introduction
Since the 1990s when we started facilitating Team Building programs, we have grown with the concept of High Performing Team. Bruce Tuckman’s model of Team Stages from Forming to Performing has been my go-to framework. As we ventured into the Regenerative agenda, I discovered that there can be a team stage beyond High Performing.
What we recently realized is that High Performing team does not automatically equate to individual growth and success. One can be part of a high performing team, but the person can remain stuck in his or her career. Throughout our three decades in HR, we have seen people leave high performing teams simply because their team’s performance doesn’t necessarily translate to their growth.
Hence, at Regenerative Transformation Institute, we developed the Regenerative Team Framework® to expand the stage of team maturity from High Performing to Thriving. More than just delivering excellent performance, Regenerative Teams enable their members and stakeholders, including the ecosystems which they interact with, to thrive together in harmony.
Regenerative Team Building
Regenerative is about creating conditions conducive for life to thrive in harmony with one another. Regenerative Team Building is a new approach that promotes regenerative thinking and practices in working together as a team. It redefines our traditional image of a high-performing team focused on delivering results and expands the concept to enable the members and their stakeholders to thrive together.
The DNA of Regenerative Teams
RTI’s unique team-building approach is based on its Regenerative Team DNA®. A Regenerative Team’s defining characteristic is the ability of its members and stakeholders to thrive together in harmony with nature. This is the team’s Regenerative Outcome, which is at the heart of the Regenerative Team DNA ® model.
The Regenerative Outcome of a thriving team is enabled by seven (7) Regenerative Traits constituting the team’s DNA.

The team is governed by a set of norms and values that serve as its moral compass.

The team understands the situation and requirements of each other and their stakeholders.
Accountable
Team members hold themselves and others accountable for the results they are expected to deliver.
Regenerative Team Maturity Model®
RTI’s Regenerative Team Maturity Model® combines Tuckman’s Team Stages and CMMI’s Capability Maturity Model. It also includes the Thriving stage, which is a Regenerative Outcome beyond the traditional Performing Stage.
The Thriving stage redefines the traditional concept of High Performing Teams. A Thriving Team does not only deliver expected results but enables the members and the stakeholders to grow and thrive together. It also considers the team’s relationship and interaction with nature and ecosystems since a fundamental philosophy of Regenerative Teams is that they and the organizations they serve should not thrive together at the expense of our nature and ecosystems.
Regenerative Team Transformation Model ®
RTI’s Team Building uses its 5A Regenerative Team Transformation Journey Model®, which shows process-oriented Regenerative Strategies to enable transformation towards becoming a Thriving Team.
